Fifteen Blog Tour (Interview)

Article

Today, I had the pleasure of interviewing Amy Woleslagle and participating in the blog tour for her new book, Fifteen! You can go here if you would like to go back to the first day of the tour. And be sure to stick around, because at the end there is a giveaway and some other goodies!

What is your favorite thing about writing in general?

I think my favorite thing about writing is how you can craft a masterpiece in black and white. You can pull out the greatest emotions and the darkest fears with just ink and paper. You can prepare a human and shape their world with just simple words strung together in sentences and graced with adverbs and adjectives.

What is your least favorite thing about writing?

My least favorite thing is definitely the work. As someone very wise has told me, if writing was easy, everyone would have a New York Bestseller.

What do you like about poetry?

I like the rhythm. I like the music you can hear under the words, the emotions you can feel through simple, short verses. I like how you can relate with something that is expressed, but not said.

What is some advice you have for beginner writers?

Write. Write until you’re sick of your own writing and you think you’re a horrible author. Write until you realize what you’re doing wrong and you fix it. Write until you write in your dreams. Write until you realize that without writing, you wouldn’t be you. Write until it’s easier to write than speak. Write until you can’t imagine a world without writing. And once you reach that point, take a deep breath, and continue writing.

What do you hope to accomplish with your writing?

I hope to accomplish a simple thing. I hope to change one person’s life and give them hope to continue. To inspire them, to push them, to show them that they have one last bit of energy to continue the good fight.

What are some things you have learned from past writing projects?

You’re asking a writer who has had too many past writing projects. I’ve learned a lot of things, I’ve learned about diligence, I’ve learned about sticking to a project, I’ve learned about sorting through emotions, about stringing together sentences, I’ve learned about myself and others. Most of all, I’ve learned to connect with people through words. And I personally think that’s very special.

What are some of your favorite books/authors and why?

Wonderful question! I love “The Wide Wide World,” any of Nadine Brandes books, any of L.M. Montgomery’s books, any of Sara Ella’s books, any of Kara Swanson’s books, anything by George McDonald . . . The list goes on. If you want to see the type of books I enjoy reading, go check out my Instagram. All I usually talk about is books.

If you had to live the rest of your life in one season, what season would that be?

Winter, 100%. Because when you have an emotional breakdown you can cuddle in your covers and wear a million sweatshirts and never be hot. Plus you can drink all the hot drinks without sweating, and there’s a chance of snow. And you don’t get weird looks for wearing boots out in public.

Thank you so much to Amie for doing this interview! Make sure to check out her Website, Blog, Youtube Channel, and Instagram! And you can preorder Fifteen here:  Paperback Ebook But we aren’t done yet… There is also a scavenger hunt and Giveaway!

Hi! I’m Hannah, a crazy pen-wielding, jack-of-all-trades writer. I write contemporary stories with a magical (or vintage!) twist, usually featuring big families, delicious food, and a few tear jerking scenes. When I’m not writing, you could find me camping, sewing, hiking, cycling, skiing, playing violin or piano, reading, and many other “-ing” words.
