My Summer Reading and Writing Plans

Article

Brown Wooden Desk

Hello!

Summer is right around the corner! Technically, summer starts on June 20th, but it’s already getting nice and warm out. I usually plan what I read and write quite extensively, so today I am sharing my summer reading and writing plans.

Reading:

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (The Hunger Games, #0)

As I’m writing this, I just remembered that this book has been released! I’m very excited to read it and see what I think about it.

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)

I read the whole Harry Potter series about four years ago. When trying to recap the whole series for a cousin, I realized how little of it I remember. That is when I decided to reread the series and become a potterhead again.

The Boy Who Steals Houses by C.G. Drews

The Boy Who Steals Houses

I’ve been wanting to read this book since a friend recommended it to me, but I always forget that it’s on my TBR list. This summer though, I will not forget about it.

Writing:

WIP (work in progress)

I’m currently outlining my WIP, which doesn’t have a title yet. It’s a pandemic-inspired-dystopian story exploring freedom vs. fear. As soon as I finish outlining it, I plan on writing it through the rest of May and probably June too.

Unnamed Novella:

I haven’t come up with a title yet for this one, but it’s a contemporary-secret-organization-road-trip novella. I plan on editing the first draft after I finish my WIP.

NaNoWriMo project:

I’m not sure how much I want to try to edit my NaNoWriMo project, but I’ve been thinking about it. My main focus for NaNoWriMo (2019) was just getting used to writing that amount of words. The story itself needs a lot of work, so I’m debating whether or not I want to edit it or not.

What do you think? What are some of your writing/reading goals for the summer? Until next time!

-Hannah

Loved hearing about your summer plans! I’m hoping to make a dent in a small pile of books I rescued when we cleaned out our shelves and see if I find any new favorites! As for writing . . . stay sane. 🙂 I want to get my novella formatted for Kindle and pitch my full-length novel to another publishing house, so . . .

Thank you so much! I hope your pitch for your novella goes well!

Hi! I’m Hannah, a crazy pen-wielding, jack-of-all-trades writer. I write contemporary stories with a magical (or vintage!) twist, usually featuring big families, delicious food, and a few tear jerking scenes. When I’m not writing, you could find me camping, sewing, hiking, cycling, skiing, playing violin or piano, reading, and many other “-ing” words.
